Northern Bobwhite is part of the Endangered Animals Art Project headed by Capitol Hill Arts Workshop to raise awareness about animals that were once able to live in Washington, DC's Rock Creek Park but are no longer able to. This sculpture is installed on a lamppost near the National Zoo. The eyes of the sculpted bird are plastic bottle caps and the wings were created using discarded plastic bags, referencing the danger of plastic that is frequently found in nests. A QR code on the lamppost links viewers to a video in which Sittner explains her inspiration for the work, reasons for choosing discarded plastics as sculpting materials, and the specific ways that plastic harms birds. The sculpture encourages passersby to make the accessible lifestyle change of opting for reusable bags in place of single-use plastic bags. The project was in partnership with Cleveland Park Main Street & Woodley Park Main Street with support from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
